How It Works

Deckbuilder turns your physical card collection into a playable deck using AI. Here is the full workflow from scanning your cards to having a game-ready deck list.

01

Scan your collection

Use a card scanning app to scan your physical Magic: The Gathering cards. We recommend MTG Manager (Dragon Shield), available on iOS and Android. Scan your cards, then export your collection as a CSV file from within the app.

02

Upload your CSV

On the home page, upload the CSV file exported from your scanning app. Deckbuilder matches each card name against the Scryfall card database to validate and enrich your collection with card data. Unrecognized card names are skipped — only matched cards are used to build your deck. Files up to 10MB and collections of up to 50,000 cards are supported.

03

Select a format

Choose the format you want to build for: Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Pauper, Commander, Oathbreaker, or Sealed. For Commander and Oathbreaker, you can optionally specify a commander or signature spell to focus the deck around.

04

Generate your deck

Deckbuilder's AI analyzes your available cards and constructs the best possible deck for your chosen format. It produces a complete deck list along with a game plan explaining the strategy and key synergies.

05

Review, edit, and re-evaluate

Once your deck is generated, you can review the full list and game plan. If you make changes to the deck list — swapping cards, adjusting quantities — you can paste the updated list and re-evaluate it to get fresh strategic feedback based on your edits.

A note on CSV compatibility

Deckbuilder is tested and confirmed to work with CSV exports from MTG Manager (Dragon Shield). Other card scanning apps may also work if their CSV export includes card names in a recognizable column, but compatibility is not guaranteed. If your cards are not being matched, check that your CSV contains a column with the full card name as it appears on the card.
